Study: Teacher Prep Programs Get Failing Marks : NPR:

“Right now, much of higher ed believes that it’s not their job to have a teacher be ready for the classroom on Day 1,” says Kate Walsh, president of the National Council on Teacher Quality.

Her organization’s study of more than 1,100 colleges of education found that 7 out of 10 programs did not adequately teach candidates how to teach reading. Nine out of 10 did a poor job preparing them to teach basic subjects like English, math, science or history. Training in classroom management and the use of student data was lacking. The damage to K-12 education, says Walsh, is enormous, and she is on a mission to expose what she calls “widespread malpractice”in the field of teacher education.

“School districts are spending billions of dollars to make up for what teacher training programs are not doing,” Walsh says.

Do you remember how excited you were during the months leading toward National Novel Writing Month? In the days leading up to November 1, I swapped notes with friends about our characters and fought that itch to start writing early, lest I forget all my plans. During the months between NaNoWriMo and Camp, some of you may have found yourselves in the doldrums.

Last year, during NaNo Prep, we did a series called the Inspiration Diaries that talked about all the things that kept us inspired to write. But if you’re feeling as though the inspiration has dried up, I totally get you. After studying creative writing, I spent my first year and a half as a college graduate bemoaning my writer’s block, eating lots of cereal, and wondering vaguely if I’d ever get another idea again.

Nature has always created waste.

The Network has entered the waste arena over the past two decades; thanks to a mixture of moore’s law and venture capitalists.

It’s really hard to understand for older generations because pictures to them were about memories; while today its primarily used as a communication medium.

Even the illustrator laments that their photos used to be worth a thousand words and are now not even worth the 10 cents it costs to print.

These awkward times we are stumbling through are as fascinating as they are stressful; no need to lament over oranges not being apples.

But we often lack the space, the time, the moment to integrate that knowledge, connect those dots, generate that creativity. Slowing down and disconnecting provides that space.

You need to allow your creativity to flow without interruption and to let your mind to fill up.

To be very creative, however, requires a deep mastering of both knowledge and skills.
